Levidi

The village spreads along the foothills of Mount Mainalo in a stunning, lush location, nestled among two or three neighboring hills overlooking the plain of ancient Orchomenos. A defining feature of the village is the combination of verdant nature and traditional architecture, creating a uniquely aesthetic image that impresses every visitor. It is a noble village with stone-built houses, rich greenery, and welcoming locals.

The heart of Levidi beats in the village square, which exudes a nostalgic charm reminiscent of bygone eras. Here you will find the main church, while tavernas and traditional cafés surrounding the square attract both locals and travelers passing through the region.

Levidi is the birthplace of the politician Alexandros Papanastasiou. A room in the town hall currently houses a temporary museum dedicated to him, featuring personal belongings, such as clothes, photographs, documents, and his personal correspondence.

At the top of the hill stands the Church of the Archangels, featuring two clocks, one old and one new. The old clock’s hands are permanently stopped at the time it was blown up by the Germans during the occupation.

To the northeast of Levidi, you’ll find the ruins of ancient Elymia. On the spot where the small church of Panagia stands today, there was once a sanctuary dedicated to Hymnia Artemis.
